Despite our site now being read by 50,000 Londoners daily, in every borough in the capital, and the existence of the traditional printed press, the level of "awareness" on the facts is still very poor. For example the pervasive nature of the state taking away the civil liberties of Londoner's with the plethora of CCTV, and according to Detective Chief Inspector Mike Neville, head of Scotland Yard's Visual Images, Identifications and Detections Office - said at a conference that:
"Billions had been spent on kit and no thought had gone into how the police are going to use the images. It's been an utter fiasco."
The capital has become more dangerous with less "active Police" on the streets of the capital, despite the tripe being given out by many senior officers in the Met that we are seeing less crime. I ask many in the capital to tell me when have we been LESS SAFER than at present? I say never has London seen the levels of crime as it has now, with no real idea from the authorities on how to deal with it.
The level of apathy in London is now at record highs, despite a high turnout at the Mayoral elections, we will probably see at the Euro elections in 2009 at turnout of 20-30 % again. Have we looked at the people who stand for local council? Moreover London needs to get more serious about itself and with itself, and not allow the middle class hypocrite's to monopolise positions of influence within the positions of influence within the city. More women, business people, working Londoner's, members of the ethnic community need to stand for office and start changing the face of London. Boris has made a good start with some very good appointments, but if he slips up we all need to help the Mayor and not be quick to judge.
